Cleaner, fresher, healthier teeth and gums

Regular dental hygiene appointments are not just about keeping your teeth sparkling, but also about preserving your overall well-being. During your check up, our hygienist; either Amy, Lesley, or Alice, will thoroughly clean your teeth, to remove any stubborn plaque and tartar.

Our team will also look for any underlying oral issues such as tooth decay or gum disease, that may need additional treatment. Spotting tooth and gum issues early is key to preventing more serious, associated health problems later on.

  • Detect early signs of gum disease and tooth decay
  • Provide personalised oral care advice
  • Assess the fit and condition of any dentures or implants
  • Screen for oral cancer and other potential health issues
  • Remove plaque and tartar
  • Polish your teeth to remove minor stains

Dental Hygiene FAQs

  • We recommend seeing a hygienist every 6 months for a thorough cleaning and check-up. Although if you’re suffering from the early stages of gum disease, you have oral hygiene issues, or medical conditions that are affecting your oral health, you may need more frequent visits.

  • As you settle into the chair, your hygienist will begin with a thorough examination of your mouth, checking for any signs of gum disease or decay. Then there will be a professional cleaning, during which the hygienist will meticulously remove plaque and tartar buildup, reaching those tricky spots that your toothbrush can’t.

  • Dental hygiene procedures are generally not painful, though some patients may experience mild discomfort. During your routine cleaning, you might feel pressure or hear scraping sounds. Some areas may be more sensitive, causing brief, tingling sensations. Our dental hygienists are trained to be gentle and responsive to your needs.

  • If the hygienist spots potential issues like gum disease or tooth decay, sinus infections, or digestive problems, upon examination, these may be the underlying reasons for your unpleasant breath. She’ll be able recommend oral hygiene measures and products to help resolve the problems. Or if the problem is more serious, she’ll be able to refer you.

  • Dental hygienists focus on removing plaque, tartar, and surface stains, which can make your teeth appear brighter. However, they don’t perform teeth whitening treatments. For significant whitening results, you may need to consider our professional teeth whitening treatments.

  • Our dental hygienist is often your first stop. They’re experts in preventive care, focusing on cleaning teeth and educating patients about proper oral hygiene. They can remove plaque and tartar that might be irritating your gums. However, if the bleeding persists or is accompanied by pain, swelling, or other symptoms, it’s time to see a dentist. Dentists can diagnose and treat more serious conditions like gum disease or infections that may be causing the bleeding.

“Thank you all!”

“I explained to Leslie the Hygienist about my past experiences and she did all she could to put my mind at ease. She was an absolute legend and also got rid of all staining on my teeth . The dental nurse who was helping Leslie was also great! But I forgot her name, sorry! Thank you all for making it such and pleasant experience, I feel so much more comfortable about visiting the dentist now. See you in 6 months! 🎉
