Healthier gums can seriously benefit your overall health

At High Street Dental Care (HSDC) our very skilled dental hygienists will provide you with the highest possible care for your gums. Having healthy gums is the foundation of not only a healthy confident smile but there is recent scientific evidence that there may be a causal link between periodontal disease and other illnesses such as Diabetes and Heart disease.

Healthy gums should be pink, firm and keep your teeth securely in place. Your gums should not bleed when you touch or brush them. Gum disease is not always painful, and you may be unaware you have it. This is why it is important to have regular dental checkups.

  • Improve your oral hygiene
  • Alleviate gum pain and discomfort
  • Reduce the risk of tooth loss
  • Lowers the risk of associated, more serious health conditions
  • Boost your smile
  • Banish bad breath

  • Common treatment options include scaling and root planing and antibiotics. Our dentist will recommend the most appropriate treatment based on the severity of your condition.

  • In some cases of gum disease, root planing may be required. This is a deep clean under the gums that gets rid of bacteria from the roots of your teeth. Local anaesthetic is quite often used for this procedure.

  • The treatment duration varies depending on the severity of the disease. Early-stage treatment may be completed in one or two visits, while advanced cases might require several appointments over a few months.

  • Yes, gum disease can recur if proper oral hygiene isn’t maintained. Regular dental check-ups and a diligent home care routine are essential to prevent relapse.
