What are dental implants?
Dental implants are the titanium posts that act as artificial tooth roots. Unlike traditional dentures, implants offer unparalleled stability and comfort, allowing you to eat, speak, and laugh without worry. They not only restore your smile but also preserve your facial structure, preventing the sunken look often associated with missing teeth.
-
How do you fit dental implants?
Paul or Vish will administer anaesthetic to ensure you’re not in pain. Then using the results from the CBCT scanner, they will find the ideal precise location of the implant placement, open your gum and place a titanium post into your jawbone. This will act as a sturdy root for your new tooth. As you heal, the post fuses with your bone, creating an incredibly strong foundation. Next, an abutment is attached, connecting the implant to your custom-made crown.
-
Can anyone have dental implants?
While most adults are eligible, the ideal candidate has healthy gums and sufficient bone density to support the implant. Bone grafting is the next step, should you require additional bone density support for your implant. Paul or Vish will talk you through every step of the process, so that you’re fully informed before your treatment starts.
-
Is it painful having dental implants fitted?
A combination of sedation techniques and local anaesthetic should ensure you feel little to no discomfort during the procedure. Many patients report that it’s no more uncomfortable than a routine filling. Post-procedure care can be carefully managed with painkillers, until you’re feeling more comfortable.
-
Will I need to have my dental implants replaced at any point?
Dental implants are designed to be a permanent solution. However, while the implant itself rarely needs replacing, the crown on top might require renewal after 10-15 years.
-
How many dental implants will I need fitted for a full set of permanent teeth?
Here at our Leicestershire practice, we offer All-on-4 dentures, which gives you a full set of replacement teeth using only four strategically placed implants. This innovative approach eliminates the need for multiple surgeries and bone grafting, providing a faster, less invasive solution for full-arch restoration.

Patient journey
2. Your Treatment
A titanium post will be placed into your jawbone, to form the foundation for the new tooth. You’ll experience minimal discomfort thanks to the anaesthetic. The implant then fuses with your bone over time. Your temporary crown will be replaced with the permanent crown once your gum has fully healed.

Patient journey
3. Aftercare
After your procedure, gently rinse with saltwater to reduce swelling and keep the area clean. Stick to soft foods for the first few days and avoid smoking to promote healing. If you have any concerns, please reach out to our team and we’ll support you.
